Awarded in recognition of achievements in enhancing the economy of the local area, the Chairman’s Awards are presented annually by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to companies within the East Riding of Yorkshire. After being nominated for the award by Green Port Hull, the Pure Renewables team enjoyed a great awards evening at The Spa in Bridlington, where they were named winners in the Business with under 50 employees category.
Nominations for the award can be made for companies which meet specific criteria, involving creation of jobs, investment and training, expansion, innovation and success as a small business.
Since its inception in 2007, the company has continued to grow, going from strength to strength to which its success at the awards has been attributed.
The judges said Pure Renewables was a credit to the East Riding of Yorkshire and an outstanding example of a company dedicated to enhancing the economy of the area.
The presenter of awards evening, Clare Frisby of BBC Look North commented that to even be considered for this award was an excellent achievement but that winning it would be a quite the feather in the companies’ cap.
When asked about what the award meant to the company Chris Whitelock, Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to have won are all absolutely thrilled. I think this award is testament to our commitment to the county and creating opportunities for local people. It really reinforces how much hard work the team has done.
“Each member of the team has played a crucial role in helping the business to grow and create further opportunities through employment and innovation.
“I like to give thanks to our wonderful team of staff, my fellow directors Janie Whitelock and Jeremy Cook and all the people who have worked with and supported us and our company.”
Pure Renewables has again increased its workforce and further new employees are due to join in the summer.

The Chairman’s Awards are a prestigious, county-wide awards with a number of categories aimed at individuals, community groups, clubs and businesses.
The winners were announced at a ceremony held at The Spa in Bridlington on Tuesday, May 11. According to information from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the ceremony is the last official engagement of the chairman before he ends his year in office. The awards were presented by the Chairman himself, Councillor Peter Turner.
Chris added: “These awards are fantastic and really help celebrate all that is good about the county of the East Riding of Yorkshire.
“They are a great showcase for some of the other impressive individual talents, community schemes and good causes make us proud of our region.
“Everybody who won or was even shortlisted has achieved great things and thoroughly deserved their place there. The awards really showcase the depth and strength of the area”.
