Wadsworth Osteopaths has eased the pain of energy bills by investing in Commercial Solar PV. The brief was to install as many panels as we could on the roof of its main practice in Cottingham, near Hull.
We designed, installed and commissioned the system and worked around clinic times to minimise disruption to the business and its patients.

Technology
- For this installation, we used 12 Jetion panels, which worked well with the single-phase electricity available at the practice.
- Each panel generates 250 watts, giving a total capacity of 3kW.
- Typically, a system of this size will generate 2,500kW hours of electricity per year.
Installation
- The panels were fitted over two roof spaces, one south and the other west facing.
- During the course of the day, the sun was on one set of panels but not the other, so we fitted dual input inverters to ensure electricity could be generated from both roofs.
- We completed the installation in less than three days so we could commission the system before the Government reduced the Feed-in-Tariff.
- One of the challenges was working on a steep roof with slate tiles, which are more brittle and less forgiving that clay or concrete pantiles.
Return On Investment
- The system should pay for itself in eight years.
- The solar panels will save the practice approximately £150 a year on its energy bills and earn them £550 a year from the Government’s Feed-in-Tariff.
- The system also generates C02 savings of 1.2 tons a year, thereby increasing the practice’s green credentials.

Client Q&A
Robert Wadsworth, Senior Partner
Why did you decide to invest in renewable energy?
In part as a contribution to the green cause, also as an investment providing a good return.
Why did you choose Pure Renewables?
I know Chris Whitelock (Pure Renewables’ Managing Director) and have been impressed by his knowledge and explanations of the technology.
What do you think of the service you received from Pure Renewables?
The contractors were very helpful in working around our busy surgery sessions. They were good enough to commission the system on a Saturday afternoon so the power-off time would not disrupt our clinics.
Has the investment matched your expectations?
So far so good!
