Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air, similar to how a fridge extracts heat from its inside. There are two main types of ASHP: an air-to-water system distributes heat via your wet central heating system, while an air-to-air system produces warm air which is circulated by fans to heat your business.


Ground source heat pumps extract heat from the ground by circulating a mixture of water and antifreeze around a ground loop. Heat from the ground is absorbed into the fluid and then passes through a heat exchanger into the heat pump which then converts it into high-temperature heat.


Water source heat pumps are available in closed-loop and open-source variants. Closed-loop systems: pipes or coils filled with glycol are laid on the river/lake bed to absorb energy from the water. Open-source systems: water is pumped to a heat pump and the heat pump absorbs the energy directly from the water.

Heat pump efficiency is generally between 300% – 500% however this is impacted by the source temperature/type and the heating flow and return temperatures. Pure Renewables focuses on high performance heat pump achieving leading efficiencies and high output temperature for a wide range of applications.

Our range of heat pumps covers a wide range of flow temperatures, as standard we have options up to 150°c with the option of generating steam for process applications also. For the UK market we have a range of natural refrigerant heat pumps operating up to 90°c, which is suitable for most applications.

As a rough guide, we advise clients that for every 1MW thermal of heat pump you require will equate to 100m² of evaporators. Compressor can sit outside or inside a plant room, to suit the sites requirements.

Heat pumps do require maintenance, given they are pressure systems with moving parts. Maintenance is managed with a preventative approach, and any package can be made flexible to suit the clients requirements and the technology involved.
