ISO 14001 is typically regarded as the most widely-recognised environmental management system standard in the world. An accredited company must demonstrate its commitment to controlling the environmental impact of its activities, maintaining compliance with environmental legislation or enhancing the potential environmental benefit of its products or services.
The environment has always been important to the whole ethos of Pure Renewables and being awarded this accreditation is viewed as an important achievement by the company directors.
Managing Director, Chris Whitelock said “Achieving this accreditation is valuable to us as it emphasises that we, as a company are very conscious about how our activities impact the environment. We take this really seriously so it’s a fantastic achievement to have our efforts recognised by an international organisation”.
As an already environmentally conscious company, getting accredited was relatively straight forward and only small adjustments to the business activities were required. The accreditation process, therefore, took less time than expected. Local environmental consultancy firm Environmental Strategies Ltd. provided expert help as part of their Fast-Track EMS package.
“The accreditation process took a lot of effort but we believe that it was time and money well spent” said Director Janie Whitelock – who spearheaded the application. “Our ISO 14001 accreditation demonstrates to our team, partners and clients that our environmental impact is being controlled, measured and continually improved.
