Is my property suitable for a Ground Source Heat Pump?

Ground source heat pumps are a great option for anyone looking to improve the efficiency of their property as part of an eco-friendly heating system. There are however some things that you may need to consider, such as the size of your land. Our heat pump experts are here to help. If you have any questions please get in touch.

Almost all properties are suitable for a heat pump system. As long as you have some land to lay the pipes in to, a ground source heat pump could be a great option.

There are some considerations to take into account when looking at ground source heat pumps, such as the land you have and whether you own it. The ground loops (pipes) are where heat is collected to convert into heat for your home, and so there needs to be enough space for them to be laid correctly. The size of the land space required can depend on the size of your heat pump, so it’s best to chat to us about your options if you’re looking at them as an option.

We asked our heat pump experts to give us all the details and hopefully you’ll find the answers to your questions below. If you still have questions please get in touch and speak to one of our heat pump experts.

In order to install a ground source heat pump, land will need to be dug up and ground loops installed. This can cause a fair amount of disruption, and though it is not a permanent structure, you will need to ensure you either own the land or you are legally allowed to install the system.

You do not require planning permission to install a ground source heat pump, as it is not classed as a permanent structure. You will however need to ensure though that you own the land and/or you have permission from everyone who also owns it, including any other parties in the instance of a shared space such as a community driveway.

The size of your system will make a significant difference to the indoor space required, but you can expect to need at least a quiet place for your hot water tank and other necessary bits of equipment. Often in larger properties this can look like a ‘plant room’ with several tanks and lots of pipes. Compared to a gas boiler or air source heat pumps, the indoor space requirement for a ground source heat pump system is much more.

If you are interested in finding out more about ground source heat pumps, or would like to plan your installation with us, please get in touch with one of our team. We have experts in all types of installations, from large industrial units to homes and farms, and can advise you of your next steps.

Considering Heat Pumps?

If you think ground source heat pumps are the right option for you, or your just not sure whether they would work in your home, get in touch with our heat pump experts and have a chat.

Heat pumps reduce carbon emissions whilst providing permanent heat that can be used for radiators, underfloor or warm air heating systems and hot water. They are ideal for well insulated properties, regardless of the age of your home and our engineers will design a solution specifically to maximise the efficiencies for your particular property. Through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you could also be entitled to a grant of up to £7,500 to cover part of the costs of replacing your existing fossil fuel heating system with a heat pump.

Our team are dedicated to adding value to every project and our expert team take care of every aspect of the installation to give you peace of mind. We are passionate about combining our knowledge and experience with high quality products and excellent customer service to deliver specialist solutions.
